Shamia Roberts is the Viral Hepatitis Program Director at the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH). Previously, she was the Director of Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Clinical Services, supporting efforts to build hepatitis C treatment capacity within Tennessee and overseeing the state’s viral hepatitis navigation projects. She also served as a Viral Hepatitis Program Navigator, linking clients to various viral hepatitis resources and supportive services. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Tennessee State University and has over a decade of nursing experience in public health, critical care, and telehealth. She also has an educational background in computer science and business administration. She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, where she was accepted as a Bloomberg Fellow and strives to illuminate the importance of treating substance use disorder as a disease intricately intertwined with other health conditions, including viral hepatitis. She is passionate about building a community where clinicians holistically treat individuals using substances and where people feel empowered to seek equitable healthcare, talk openly about their needs, and actively pursue a better quality of life.
